Giulia Melucci wrote a book with a title that explains the whole plot, I LOVED, I LOST, I MADE SPAGHETTI. She explains in this video. That brings up the whole subject of comfort foods, those foods that somehow can soothe the pain or angst caused by feeling crowded or on edge from our everyday events, or from just really bad news. My wife's favorite and quickest curitive, when speed is necessary to begin the cure when she doesn't feel good physically is mushroom soup, and perhaps a cup of tea. That is almost a surefire cure for her. If the pain is a little deeper wound, mac and cheese is called for, or meat loaf and mashed pototoes and gravy. One of the prerequisites of comfort food is that it must be simple fare, and it must hark back usually to time spent watching your mother prepare what has become your comfort food.
